A Christmas Carol

A Christmas Carol

Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the house
Not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse.
The stockings were hung by the chimney with care,
In hopes that St Nicholas soon would be there.

This poem is so evocative... it instantly takes you back to being a kid again and all the excitement and anticipation of Christmas morning. Reading through familiar books, listening to well-loved Christmas music can recreate a sense of magic and with it comes the promise of love, laughter and happiness of friends and family.

Carols and songs especially are so unique to this time of year. They are more than nice tunes to listen to, they bring Christmas to life and transport us to memories, events and people from past celebrations. They are the backdrop to parties and church services, they’re playing when you decorate, wrap presents and meet people in shops, cafes and restaurants. In this way they colour our lives as we head towards Christmas. For me, I’d like to take it one step further and let them shape how we decorate too. Use the words and lyrics to adorn your home and infuse each room with the feelings and recollections they evoke.

Here are my Christmas carols to help illuminate the home...

Deck the Halls
Deck the halls with boughs of holly,
Fa la la la la, la la la la.
Tis the season to be jolly,
Fa la la la la, la la la la.

O Christmas Tree
O Christmas Tree! O Christmas Tree!
Thy leaves are so unchanging;
O Christmas Tree! O Christmas Tree!
Thy leaves are so unchanging;
Not only green when summer's here,
But also when 'tis cold and drear.
O Christmas Tree! O Christmas Tree!
Thy leaves are so unchanging!

We Three Kings of Orient Are
O Star of wonder, star of night
Star with royal beauty bright
Westward leading, still proceeding
Guide us to thy Perfect Light

Jingle Bells
Oh, jingle bells, jingle bells
Jingle all the way
Oh, what fun it is to ride
In a one horse open sleigh

Silent Night
Silent night, holy night
All is calm, all is bright
Round yon Virgin Mother and Child
Holy Infant so tender and mild
Sleep in heavenly peace
Sleep in heavenly peace

White Christmas
I'm dreaming of a white Christmas
Just like the ones I used to know
Where the treetops glisten,
and children listen
To hear sleigh bells in the snow
